What is the HITECH Act & What Does it Mean to Eligible Providers?

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), is the part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 aimed at accelerating the process of the healthcare industry to make the shift from paper medical records to Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Contained in the act is incentives for eligible professionals to receive government Stimulus money to help offset the costs associated with implementing a new electronic medical record system.

Under the HITECH act there are requirements and deadlines that eligible professionals must meet in-order to  receive the government stimulus dollars. The main part for eligibility is that eligible professionals must show that they are demonstrating Meaningful Use.
